Unreal Tournament 2004 is the sequel to the highly popular UT2003 and uses the very latest Unreal Engine technology. Unreal Tournament 2004 employs the use of Vertex and Pixel Shaders and it's recommended that you use a DirectX 9 videocard if you plan to play with all the bells and whistles enabled.

It seems UT2004 is a lot harder on the processors than the older UT2003 as the Prescott based Pentium 4 540 is barely able to outperform the older Northwood Pentium 4 3.0C! Please keep in mind though that it is using a slightly slower videocard.

Doom 3 is the most advanced OpenGL game to date, it takes advantage of the latest videocard technology and pushes the processing power of the CPU to its absolute limits. At its highest setting Ultra quality, texture sizes pass the 500MB mark which means even tomorrows videocards will have a hard time running everything. The framerates in the game itself are locked at 60 fps so anything above that point is wasted. Each test is run three times and with the third run being recorded.

The Doom 3 benchmark results remain in-line with the other tests, as the 540 acquits itself well, but cannot quite keep up with the Athlon64 competition.
