OCZ PC4800 Dual Channel Platinum Limited Edition Memory
OCZ PC4800 Dual Channel Platinum Limited Edition Memory - PCSTATS
It's pretty amazing to see how high people are able to clock traditional DDR memory these days, especially since the final JEDEC DDR standard was PC3200.

Max. Overclocking and Conclusions

Maximum DDR Overclocking Tests

It's great to see how individual memory stacks up against one another under stock configuration, but we're also going to show how they stack up to each other when overclocked. The results are listed below for some of the recent memory to cross PCSTATS' test bench. All memory was tested at its most lax timings as well as its most aggressive. In terms of best overall overclocking performance, PCStats currently gives more weight to the combination of moderately high speeds and low latencies (2-2-2-5) than high speeds at the expense of latency timings.

The OCZ PC4800 Platinum memory was designed to run at high speeds and high speeds only. This is why low latency testing didn't go very far. When it comes to speed (and lax latencies) though, nothing we've tested has yet beat the OCZ PC4800 Platinum as it's able to run at DDR636 - quite impressive!

Silver Streaks!

With DDR memory hitting new speed highs almost consistently, who needs DDR2? Kidding aside, it's pretty amazing to see how high people are able to clock traditional DDR memory these days, especially since the final JEDEC DDR standard was PC3200 or 200 MHz. With memory like OCZ's PC4800 DC Platinum LTD Ed, you can run 50% faster than that standard!

Retailing for $330 CDN ($265 US), the OCZ PC4800 DC Platinum LTD Ed kit represents the fastest memory you can buy right now without having to use insane voltages. With a default clock speed of 300 MHz (2.5-4-4-10 timings) and a voltage of 2.85V, there simply isn't anything faster on the market at this moment.

What makes the OCZ PC4800 DC Platinum LTD Ed even better is that it's very versatile. I was quite surprised to see that the modules had absolutely no problem running at aggressive timings (2-2-2-5) at lower speeds. Traditionally, high speed DIMMs do not like running at aggressive timings even at low speeds, but the OCZ PC4800 DC Platinum LTD Ed memory can.

At stock AMD Athlon64 speeds and tight timings, the OCZ PC4800 DC Platinum LTD Ed performed on par with memory we've tested in the past and that's pretty good. We were able to push the memory all the way up to 318 MHz using the stock 2.5-4-4-10 memory timings. The performance at 318 MHz was good, although system memory bandwidth did not increase as much as we had hoped it would.

If you want some fast memory without much hassle, the OCZ PC4800 DC Platinum LTD Ed might be exactly what the doctor ordered!
