Benchmarks: ScienceMark 2.0 in 32-bit and 64-bit

ScienceMark 2.0 Source: ScienceMark

Mol Dyn: Molecular Dynamics is a method for simulating the thermodynamic behaviour of materials using their forces, velocities, and positions. Most important of the afore mentioned is the force. Primordia: This code calculates the Quantum Mechanical Hartree-Fock Orbital for each electron in any element of the periodic table.

Scores are measured in seconds; lower times indicate better results.

ScienceMark 2.0 Benchmark Results
Mol Dyn seconds Ranking
Pentium 4 540 83
Athlon64 3800+ 68.42
Athlon64 4000+ 72.35
Athlon64 X2 4800+ 62.31
Athlon64 X2 4800+ 64-bit 62.43
Pentium D 840 80.69
Pentium D 840 (4.02GHz) 64.64
Pentium D 840 64-bit 80.38
Primordia seconds Ranking
Pentium 4 540 471.47
Athlon64 3800+ 341.45
Athlon64 4000+ 344.09
Athlon64 X2 4800+ 267.62
Athlon64 X2 4800+ 64-bit 282.94
Pentium D 840 441.35
Pentium D 840 (4.02GHz) 354.8
Pentium D 840 64-bit 438.53

The Sciencemark 2.0 benchmark obviously gains no advantage from 64-bit operation. The dual-core Intel Pentium D 840 posts noticeably better results than the Pentium 4 540, especially when overclocked. At stock it lags behind both the single and dual-core AMD processors in this benchmark though.

This is the 64-bit version of the benchmark and requires a 64-bit operating system and compatible processor to run.

Scores are measured in seconds; lower times indicate better results.

ScienceMark 2.0 64-Bit Benchmark Results
Mol Dyn seconds Ranking
Athlon64 X2 4800+ 64-bit 21.63
Pentium D 840 64-bit 35.75
Primordia seconds Ranking
Athlon64 X2 4800+ 64-bit 243.27
Pentium D 840 64-bit 269.58

Our second pure 64-bit benchmark sees the Athlon64 X2 4800+ considerably ahead of the Intel Pentium D 840 in the Mol Dyn test, but the Intel processor posts a much improved result in the Primordia test. Both scores are outstanding, showing the power of the new dual-core, 64-bit processors as they tear through the benchmarks in half or a quarter of the time taken in 32-bit mode.
