Benchmarks: Aquamark3, X2: The Threat

AquaMark3 Source: Massive Development
AquaMark3 is a powerful tool to determine reliable information about the gaming performance of computer systems. Because the benchmark extensively utilizes DirectX9, DirectX8 and DirectX7 functionality, it represents the requirements of typical gaming applications in 2003 and 2004. We test with screen resolution set to 1024x768.

AquaMark 3 Benchmark Results
GFX: Points Ranking
Gigabyte G-MAX N512 2925
Sony VAIO VGN-T140P 243
Gigabyte G-MAX N203 339
Acer Ferrari 4005 WLMi 5985
Processor: Points Ranking
Gigabyte G-MAX N512 8611
Sony VAIO VGN-T140P 5971
Gigabyte G-MAX N203 7812
Acer Ferrari 4005 WLMi 8163
Overall: Points Ranking
Gigabyte G-MAX N512 25003
Sony VAIO VGN-T140P 2376
Gigabyte G-MAX N203 3315
Acer Ferrari 4005 WLMi 43807

The 1.7GHz Pentium M chip onboard the Gigabyte N512 notebook manages to best the Ferrari 4005's 2GHz AMD Turion64 in the processor section of this test, but the Radeon Mobility X700 proves far superior to the older graphics technologies once again.

X2: The Threat Source: Egosoft

A completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8 encompasses many visual effects such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that have a real impact in the game (you can hide in them), and new engine, shield, weapon and explosion effects. Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3 bump mapping allows a previously unseen level of detail.

X2: The Threat Benchmark Results
640x480 Points Ranking
Gigabyte G-MAX N512 105.915
Acer Ferrari 4005 WLMi 114.328
1024 x 768 Points Ranking
Gigabyte G-MAX N512 69.684
Acer Ferrari 4005 WLMi 87.541

X2: The Threat relies heavily on CPU power, and the 1.7GHz Intel Centrino makes a respectable showing here, though it bows to the superior speed and graphics power of the 2GHz AMD Turion64-based Ferrari notebook in the higher resolution test.
