AMD Athlon64 FX-60 Dual Core Processor Review - PCSTATS
Abstract: It's important to note that each core has its own 128KB L1 and 1MB L2 cache; so essentially what we have here are two Athlon64 FX-55's squeezed into one package.

Multi-threaded Benchmarks: 3DMark05, Doom 3, FEAR

3DMark05 Source: FutureMark

3DMark05 is the latest version of the highly favoured 3DMark graphics benchmarking series. It is the first benchmark to require DirectX9.0 compliant hardware with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 or higher!

Prime95 + 3DMark05
Overall: Points Ranking
Intel Pentium D 840 7974
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 11456
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 @ 2.88 GHz 12643
CPU: Points Ranking
Intel Pentium D 840 2186
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 2546
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 @ 2.88 GHz 2844

The overall score does not decrease too much with Prime95 running in the background, but the CPU score does decrease by quite a bit in this multithreaded benchmark.

Doom 3

Source: id Software

Doom 3 is the most advanced OpenGL game to date. It takes advantage of the latest videocard technology and pushes the processing power of the CPU to its absolute limits. At its highest setting, Ultra quality, texture sizes pass the 500MB mark which means even tomorrow's videocards will have a hard time running everything. The frame rates in the game itself are locked at 60 fps so anything above that point is wasted. Each test is run three times and with the third run being recorded.

Prime95 + Doom 3
LQ 640x480: FPS Ranking
Intel Pentium D 840 84.4
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 147.8
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 @ 2.88 GHz 152.4
HQ 1024x768: FPS Ranking
Intel Pentium D 840 77.5
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 126.4
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 @ 2.88 GHz 133.7

With Prime 95 running in the background, Doom 3 framerates are still very high and perfectly playable. No surprise here, the AMD Athlon64 FX-60 totally demolishes the Intel Pentium D 840 by upwards of 45%.

Source: Sierra

FEAR is Sierra's latest first person shooter which relies heavily on DirectX 9 features. With its "Soft Shadows" feature enabled, even the fastest videocards run at a crawl, FEAR is definitely the new benchmark for future FPS games to follow.

Prime95 + FEAR
Minimum 640x480: FPS Ranking
Intel Pentium D 840 176
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 254
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 @ 2.88 GHz 267
Maximum 1024x768: FPS Ranking
Intel Pentium D 840 83
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 103
AMD Athlon64 FX-60 @ 2.88 GHz 117

In the final benchmark of the day, the AMD Athlon64 FX-60 is able to maintain a huge framerate advantage over the dual core Pentium D 840 even while Prime95 is running in the background. Simply impressive!
