Prelude to Benchmarks - Test System Configuration

Over the following page we'll be running the socket AM2 AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ and Athlon64 FX-62 processors though PCSTATS standard set of gaming, productivity, and 64-bit processor benchmarks. There are a wide variety of gaming and synthetic benchmarks here to illustrate what kind of performance boost users can expect from these latest, dual core 64-bit capable K8 processors.

The AMD Athlon64 FX-62 processor that PCSTATS will be testing is based on the 'ACBYF' stepping and was built in week 04 of 2006. The Athlon64 X2 5000+ processor is based on stepping 'ADB4F' and built in week 03 of 2006. Both CPUs are being benchmarked with Corsair's XMS2-8500 low latency DDR-2 RAM on a socket AM2 Asus M2N32SLI-DLX motherboard equiped with the nVidia nForce 590 SLI chipset.

The specific details of how the AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ and FX-62 processor test systems were configured for benchmarking - including the hardware, software drivers, operating system and benchmark versions - are indicated below. In the third and fourth columns are the general specs for the AMD and Intel reference platforms that the dual core Athlon64 X2 5000+ and FX-62 processors is being compared against.

Please take a moment to look over PCSTATS test system configurations before moving on to the individual benchmark results on the next several pages.
