Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI Geforce 9600GT Rev.B Videocard Review
Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI Geforce 9600GT Rev.B Videocard Review - PCSTATS
This isn't an old 9600GT GPU making a comeback with 1GB of GDDR3 memory, this new Geforce 9600GT graphics card from Gigabyte uses the 'revision B' nVidia 'G94' GPU; it's built with a smaller manufacturing process, has a physically smaller silicon die, uses less power and consequently runs cooler.

Advanced Videocard Benchmarks: Crysis AA/AF & Conclusions

Crysis 1.2 - AA/AF Tests

Source: Electronic Arts

Crysis is a science fiction first-person shooter developed by Crytek. Crysis uses Microsoft's new API, DirectX 10 for graphics rendering, and includes the new engine—the CryEngine 2—that is the successor to Far Cry's CryEngine. CryEngine 2 is among the first engines to use the DirectX 10 framework of Windows Vista, but can also run using DirectX 9, both on Vista and Windows XP.

Crysis is more than even a 1GB Geforce 9600GT can handle, so the Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI winds up on the bottom of the barrel here. Crysis wants more shader power than the G94 graphics core can deliver.

A Silent 9600GT - the ideal HTPC videocard?

Gigabyte's Rev. B Geforce 9600GT GV-N96TSL-1GI videocard is an ideal companion for the Home Theatre PC builder who's looking for an absolutely silent PC. Thanks to the Silent Cell heatsink the Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI videocard runs cool with a modest airflow passing over its fins, even in stressfull situations that tax the nVidia Geforce 9600GT.

The passive heatsink helps conduct heat out the rear of the computer chassis, instead of dumping it just below the CPU heatsink. A nice touch, and one that keeps internal PC ambient temperatures under control too.

The new 55nm 'Rev. B' Geforce 9600GT at the heart of the Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI videocard offered up reduced power demands, a nice change from the normal climb up Mount Wattage.

Gigabyte's GV-N96TSL-1GI videocard handled itself well in the benchmarks, beat out the previous generation Geforce 9600GT videocards in situations where anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering were turned up to the maximum. The card is blessed with 1GB of GDDR3 that acts as a larger frame buffer and thus requires fewer passes to render these image quality effects, particularly at high resolutions.

While the Geforce 9600GT isn't quite fast enough to be a killer gaming card on its own anymore, the Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI can hold its own in games that aren't especially shader-intensive. For $150 CDN ($110 USD, £80GBP) the Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI Silent Cell has made itself a very easy choice for those looking to build or upgrade a home theatre PC. Users who are also more concerned with a silent PC rather than bleeding-edge gaming performance should also give this card a closer look. The Gigabyte GV-N96TSL-1GI videocard has solid performance, excellent power efficiency and best of all it's completely silent.
