ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO Motherboard Highlights

Let's start off by taking a quick walk around the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard...

Expansion includes: (1) PCI Express x1 slot, (1) PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot with x16 bandwidth, (3) PCI slots, (1) PCI Express x16 slot with x4 bandwidth. Along the edge of the board are S/PDIF, USN and LPT pannel headers

Underneath the passive aluminum heatsink is the AMD SB710 southbridge. The ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO has five SATA 3Gb/s ports which can be run in RAID 0, 1, 0+1 and JBOD modes. This corner of the motherboard houses three USB headers (that can be split into six USB 2.0 connections), IDE and the front panel header.

The ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO supports up to 16GB of DDR3 1066/1333 memory in four DIMMs, or 4GB for 32-bit operating systems. Memory can be overclocked to DDR3-1600/1800 if the memory will tolerate it. Along the bottom edge of the board is the ATX 24-pin power connector.

The ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO uses socket AM3, so it's only compatible with Phenom II and Athlon II CPUs that have DDR3 memory controllers. Around the outside of the CPU are the MOSFETs that make up the CPU power supply.

AMD's 785G chipset can get very hot when running under full 3D load, so it's important to have decent system airflow in order to keep it cool.

ASUS uses all solid-state capacitors on the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO, which won't explode, leak or dry out.

Let's see if ASUS' M4A785TD-V EVO can compare to previous generations of AMD chipsets, like the AMD 780G...
