AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2GHz Socket AM3 6-Core Processor Review
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2GHz Socket AM3 6-Core Processor Review - PCSTATS
The first ever six-core socket AM3 processor from AMD has arrived to directly compete against Intel's robust Core i7 9-series 'Nehalem' chips. Code named 'Thuban', the new 3.2GHz AMD Phenom II X6 1090T processor introduces with it a dynamic overclocking technology called TurboCore.

CPU Calculation Benchmarks: wPrime2.0

wPrime 2.0 Source: WPrime

wPrime uses a recursive call of Newton's method for estimating functions, with f(x)=x2-k, where k is the number we're sqrting, until Sgn(f(x)/f'(x)) does not equal that of the previous iteration, starting with an estimation of k/2. It then uses an iterative calling of the estimation method a set amount of times to increase the accuracy of the results. It then confirms that n(k)2=k to ensure the calculation was correct. It repeats this for all numbers from 1 to the requested maximum.

Lower calculation times are better. wPrime is multi-threaded.

wPrime is a multi-threaded benchmark, and even better it can be loaded up thread-by-thread, so we can see how well TurboCore scales on the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T.

With one, two and three cores loaded, TurboCore allows the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T to calculate prime numbers about 12% faster, almost directly equal to TurboCore's 12% increase in clockspeeds. As the fourth thread is loaded up the entire processor reverts to its native speed of 3.2GHz across all six cores. TurboCore's performance boost shrinks to around 2% as this happens.

Between Turbocore and having six native cores, AMD is finally able to field a processor that can compete with and beat Intel's Core i7 920 processor, even when both processors are scaled to their maximum core/thread processing capabilities.
