CPU Calculation Benchmarks: ScienceMark2.3, Cinebench R10

ScienceMark 2.3 Source: ScienceMark

Mol Dyn: Molecular Dynamics is a method for simulating the thermodynamic behaviour of materials using their forces, velocities, and positions. Most important of the afore mentioned is the force. Primordia: This code calculates the Quantum Mechanical Hartree-Fock Orbital for each electron in any element of the periodic table Lower times indicate better results.

Lower calculation times are better.

ScienceMark illustrates how some benchmarks favour optimization and the number of discreet cores over thread count. In the Primordia benchmark the quad-core AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition weighs in with a quick result of 162.7992.

The Mol Dun benchmark posts slightly different results, with the quad-core Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition processor having a result of 40, just a bit slower than the leading Intel Core i5/i7 processors.

CINEBENCH is a real-world test suite that assesses your computer's performance capabilities. CINEBENCH runs several tests on your computer to measure the performance of the main processor under real world circumstances. The benchmark application makes use of up to 16 CPUs or CPU cores to render a photo-reaslistic image. The scene makes use of various CPU-intensive features such as reflection, ambient occlusion, area lights and procedural shaders. In the first run, the benchmark only uses one CPU (or CPU core), to ascertain a reference value. On computers that have multiple CPUs or CPU cores and on those who simulate multiple CPUs (via HyperThreading or similar technologies), MAXON CINEBENCH will run a second test using all available CPU power.

Higher results are best. Cinebench is multi-threaded.

When it comes to multi-threaded rendering, the 3.6GHz AMD Phenom II X4 975 BE and its four cores render the test image with a result of 11756. This is slower than the six-core Phenom II X6 and eight-thread Intel Core i7 processors, but still quick by most measures. For sheer performance the AMD Phenom II X6 1100T wins hands down with a result of 14954.

Next up, how does a 3.6GHz quad core processor affect photo editing performance in a program like Bibble 5? We find out on PCSTATS...
