Benchmarks: AquaMark03, Comanche 4, X2: The Threat

AquaMark3 Source: Massive Development

AquaMark3 is a powerful tool to determine reliable information about the gaming performance of computer systems. Because the benchmark extensively utilizes DirectX9, DirectX8 and DirectX7 functionality, it represents the requirements of typical gaming applications in 2003 and 2004.

AquaMark3
1024x768 Processor Points Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (i925X 200/400) 10426
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (i915P 200/400) 10261
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 10274
ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 10036
VIA PT894 Ref Motherboard (PT894 200/400) 9816
1024x768 Overall Points Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (i925X 200/400) 62489
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (i915P 200/400) 61216
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 61045
ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 60856
VIA PT894 Ref Motherboard (PT894 200/400) 60484

The VIA PT8984 scores slightly less than the other motherboards but you're not going to notice it when gaming for sure.

Comanche 4 Source: Novalogic

The Comanche 4 benchmark demo is a unique test as it represents a real-world gaming experience. It contains the single player "Eagle's Talon" mission from the game as well as a detailed cinematic. This DirectX 8.1 benchmark demo will measure your system's performance in the standard frames per second format. The benchmark was run with audio disabled.

Comanche 4
640x480 FPS Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (i925X 200/400) 59.44
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (i915P 200/400) 56.07
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 55.72
ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 54.64
VIA PT894 Ref Motherboard (PT894 200/400) 56.03

Here we see the VIA PT894 reference board do better. Overall the PT894 sits exactly where we'd expect, just under that of the 925X.

X2: The Threat Source: Egosoft

A completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8 encompasses many visual effects such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that have a real impact in the game (you can hide in them) and many new engine, shield, weapon and explosion effects. Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3 bump mapping allows a previously unseen level of detail.

X2 The Threat
640x480 FPS Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (i925X 200/400) 184.172
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (i915P 200/400) 173.165
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 166.843
ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 166.333
VIA PT894 Ref Motherboard (PT894 200/400) 174.335

Here in X2: The Threat we again see a strong showing from the VIA PT894 reference board. It sits second place just behind the 925X mobo.
