Conclusions

Overall I would have to say the the MSI 850Pro 2 is a satisfying Pentium 4 Motherboard to work with. During all our tests it didn't not crash a single time and comes standard with a range of features the average user and performance enthusiast will appreciate. The change over from a PIII or Athlon system will be a bit painful considering the P4 architecture basically requires custom power supply, heatsink, and memory.

Based on the i850 chipset this motherboard may soon see competition from VIA's newly announced P4X266 DDR compatible P4 chipset. Of course that chipset may become entangled in politics and lawyers but it will be interesting to see how everything playes out in the end.

At the very least, with the 850 Pro2, MSI have managed to create the first ever 4-layer P4 motherboard, and one we very much enjoyed using. The overclocker will be comforted by the familiar range of tools to let them tune and tweak their system into higher performance then the defaults ever allow. For those of us who mess up on the way, D-LED is there to help out in the diagnostics of the problem

While MSI's PC-to-PC feature is a very unique offering I can't help but feel a bit reluctant to let go of my Cat 5 in exchange for 6 foot lengths of pre-cut USB cable. I would rather use this feature for dual computer setups rather than actual networking. To sum it up on one sentence, the MSI 850 Pro2 is a very fine P4 solution.
