ASRock's boards are based on the same technology as other current chipset products, but are built with less frills, and less expensive components.

Overclocking and BIOS

Considering ASRock is targeting mainly business users and system integrators with their products, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that they do not include many overclocking features with the 775V88 motherboard.

We started overclocking the board from 200MHz FSB as usual. It was able to pass the 211 MHz ceiling that the reference board was limited to, but we didn't get much further.

The best we were able to do with the ASRock 775V88 was 214 MHz FSB. Not the best we've seen but not much of a surprise either.

I have a feeling that this relatively low overclock has more to do with the VIA PT880 chipset than anything else. In any case, the 775V88 is not a board for the overclocking set, but I think you already knew that...

Not The Usual BIOS...

Asus users might recognize this BIOS, but the rest of us won't since it's not based on the usual Award BIOS system. There are a few memory timings adjustments but not as many as we're used to with higher-end boards. Memory and AGP voltage adjustments can be set to either 'High' or 'Normal'. There are quite a few AGP tweaks available here, which is surprising.

As you would expect, there's not a lot of overclocking options. FSB can be raised in 1 MHz increments although you're not going to get very far. CPU throttling can be turned on or off as can HyperThreading.
