Benchmarks: SysMark 2004

BAPCo Sysmark 2004 Source: Bapco

SYSmark 2004 is BAPCo's latest revision of the mainstream office productivity and Internet content creation benchmark used to characterize the performance of the business client. It is based on a foundation of extensive research into emerging usage models and computing trends and incorporates the latest benchmarking methodologies to evaluate platform technologies. SYSmark 2004 contains scientifically designed workloads that represent the range of activities that an office productivity or Internet content creation work may encounter. In addition to extensive validation across multiple platforms, users can be sure of a consistent and reliable performance comparison. Higher numbers are better.

This benchmark will not run on WindowsXP x64 Edition (64-bit), so these tests have been omitted.

The dual-core nature of the Intel Pentium D 840 obviously helps in the Internet Content Creation section of this benchmark, as the test processor handily beats the single core CPUs in the group. This is probably explained by the presence of multi-threaded applications which would receive a big boost from a second core.

The Intel Pentium D 840 comes back to earth in the second part of this benchmark, recording good scores for an Intel processor, but obviously not receiving any boost from dual-core operation. Overclocking handily increased all scores, which was good to see.

In our first competitive benchmark, the AMD Athlon64 X2 4800+ scored approximately 20% higher than the Intel Pentium D 840 in most of the tests, Document Creation and Data Analysis being the exceptions.
