Overclocking the Gigabyte motherboard

Overclocking Results:
stock max. oc
motherboard speed: 333 mhz

495 mhz

if you're new to Overclocking and not sure what to do, check out these two excellent Guides for some pointers:
Overclocking the CPU and Memory
Overclocking the Videocard

The Intel P35 Express chipset has put the fun back into overclocking, each motherboard that has passed through the PCSTATS test labs has overclocked pretty smartly. Gigabyte has a good reputation in this area, so when you mix the two together positive things should result.

For PCSTATS's tests, the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard will be equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 processor and 2GB of Corsair's DOMINATOR Twin2X2048-8888C4DF memory. Corsair Memory, knowing is half the battle. Before the fun starts, the CPU clock multiplier will be set to 6x and the memory to run in DDR2-667 MHz mode.

Starting from 333 MHz FSB, the GA-P35-DS3R motherboard was overclocked in 5 MHz increments. Without breaking a sweat, the board cracked the 400...415....420... and 425 MHz FSB, then came 430 MHz FSB. At that point the chipset required a voltage tweak to 0.1V above stock. To get to 450 MHz, the chipset needed another voltage bump, this time to 0.2V above stock.

The Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard overclocked fairly well, reaching a maximum speed of 495 MHz. Anything higher and the motherboard would BSOD while loading Windows XP. A clock speed of 495 MHz is good for a mainstream motherboard, but not stratospheric.

Inside the Gigabyte BIOS:

In the MB Intelligent Tweaker section we find the overclocking and memory timing adjustments. You can adjust the CPU clock multiplier of the the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard as well as FSB from 100-700 MHz, in 1 MHz increments. In the MB Intelligent Tweaker you'll also find the memory timing options, Gigabyte puts enough options to keep even the most experienced tweaker busy for weeks. Maximum DDR2 memory voltage is 0.7V above stock, the chipset 0.3V above stock and you can push the CPU voltage to 2.0V.

Prelude to Benchmarks

The details of how the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard test system was configured for benchmarking, including the specific hardware, software drivers, operating system and benchmark versions are indicated below. In the second column are the general specs for the reference platforms this Intel P35 Express based system is to be compared against. Please take a moment to look over PCSTATS test system configurations before moving on to the individual benchmark results.
