Quad videocard power

When OCZ bought PC Power & Cooling earlier in the year, there was a pause from amongst hardware enthusiasts; would OCZ mess around with a winning formula? Up to that point PC Power & Cooling was revered by many as the premier power supply manufacturer.

As you've seen in this review of the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad, the power supply is an very good unit. It should handle the needs of any dual videocard computer. If you're a gamer who likes to use the latest videocards, the two eight pin PCI Express 2.0 power connectors will keep your videocards happily fed with extra juice.

We often say that you can tell how much confidence a manufacturer has in its products by the length of it warranty. At five years, the PC Power & Cooling warranty is two years longer than the industry standard. It should also be noted that PC Power & Cooling builds its own power supplies rather than remarking prebuilt models. One wonders if OCZ will be using PC Power & Cooling's factories to build its OCZ branded power supplies too...

PC Power & Cooling has never been into gimmicks and the Silencer 750 Quad has got to be one of the most boring power supplies on the market. But you know what, it works well and that's what matters. Testing showed that the voltages were rock solid stable, although the power supply wasn't able to reach the 83% efficiency rating, that's mainly our fault for not being able to put it under enough load.

With a retail price of $177 CDN ($190 USD, £90 GBP) , the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad is aggressively priced. There are a lot of good power supplies available for that price but there's just something special about PC Power & Cooling that makes you want to go that route.
