Overclocking the quick Asus Videocard

Overclocking Results:
stock overclocked
gpu (core) speed: 700 mhz 717mhz
memory speed: 2000 mhz 2020 mhz
if you're new to Overclocking and not sure what to do, check out these two excellent Guides for some pointers:
Overclocking the CPU and Memory
Overclocking the Videocard

The Asus EN8800GT TOP/G/HTDP/512M/A videocard comes from the factory very heavily overclocked with the core at 700 MHz and the memory at 2000 MHz. That's up from the stock configuration of 600 MHz and 1800 MHz, core and memory respectively. Of course that doesn't mean the ASUS EN8800GT TOP is going to be spared PCSTATS overclocking tests. ;-)

Starting with the GeForce 8800GT core first, the clock speed was increased in small 5 MHz increments. Unfortunately the core didn't go very far and hit its top speed at 717 MHz. Anything higher and nTune would complain that the videocard failed its internal test.

Next up was the 512MB of GDDR3 memory, starting at 2000 MHz the memory was increased in 10 MHz steps and as with the core we didn't get far. Bummer. The memory reached its maximum speed at just 2040 MHz and again if we pushed it harder nTune would complain.

While it looks like the Asus EN8800GT TOP/G/HTDP/512M/A does not overclock well at all, that's actually not the case. The card is already overclocked high enough from default speeds that it's basically at the ceiling before you even set about overclocking it yourself.

Prelude to Benchmarks:

The details of how the Asus EN8800GT TOP/G/HTDP/512M/A test system was configured for benchmarking; the specific hardware, software drivers, operating system and benchmark versions are indicated below. Because performance between the stock and overclocked states was less than 1%, only stock results will be posted.

In the second column are the general specs for the reference platforms this nVIDIA GeForce 8800GT 512MB based videocard is to be compared against. Please take a moment to look over PCSTATS test system configurations before moving on to the individual benchmark results on the next page.
