AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4 GHz Socket AM3 Processor Review
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4 GHz Socket AM3 Processor Review - PCSTATS
AMD's 3.4GHz Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition processor represents a slight clock speed increase over the previous forerunner, the quad-core 955 Black Edition, and competes with Intel's existing quad-core family of socket 775 CPUs.

32-Bit CPU Rendering Benchmarks: Cinebench R10, Bibble 5

Cinebench R10 Source: CINEBENCH

CINEBENCH is a real-world test suite that assesses your computer's performance capabilities. CINEBENCH runs several tests on your computer to measure the performance of the main processor under real world circumstances. The benchmark application makes use of up to 16 CPUs or CPU cores to render a photo-reaslistic image. The scene makes use of various CPU-intensive features such as reflection, ambient occlusion, area lights and procedural shaders. In the first run, the benchmark only uses one CPU (or CPU core), to ascertain a reference value. On computers that have multiple CPUs or CPU cores and on those who simulate multiple CPUs (via HyperThreading or similar technologies), MAXON CINEBENCH will run a second test using all available CPU power.

Higher results are best. Cinebench is multi-threaded.

Using just a single score, both the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition and its rival, the Core i7 920 manage to tie in Cinebench. With all threads loaded up (four for the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, eight for the i7 920), things get more interesting. The Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition gives the Core i7 920 CPU a serious run for its money, it's about 13% slower in this test (higher results are better).

Bibble 5.0 Source: Bibble Labs

Bibble 5 is a multi-threaded photographic workflow application that can be used to demonstrate the ability to scale work load across 4, 8, 16 or more processor cores. The basic process we will use for benchmarking is to convert a batch of 50 RAW image files from a digital SLR camera from their original RAW format to JPEG's at full resolution, using the applications default image settings.

Lower results are best.

Bibble5 is a great photo-ediging program for illustrating the everyday benefits of multi-core processors. With the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition in the drivers seat, processing time to convert 50 RAW files to JPEG format is neatly halved when compared to dual core processors with similar speeds (like the 3.0GHz Intel E8500). Again, we see an incremental advantage to the X4 965 BE over the X4 955 BE.
