Enough of that, the Tidalwave never faltered from a solid 31.2, every damn time it dialed in. Sweetness! Granted, 31.2 is nothing to brag about, but again not all of us are fortunate enough to have the ADSL or cable modem service in our area. The USB bus is faster than serial, so there is no bottleneck on the data flow, especially not at my connection speed. I am very pleased with this modem, and as long as I am chained to dial up, it will be the one I use. Here is a cool pic of the little guy, not going to take up much space at all for those of you with that constraint.

It comes with some bundled software, and some ISP choices (normally I would blacklist anyone that pushes AOL but I will let them slide on this one..). All in all, for about a $50 dollar price tag (unless you buy one now and get that sweet $20 rebate!) you just can't lose. It has some killer performance, good looks, and ease of use sure to please the average modem user out there. Also think of this, those PCMCIA modems are a bit pricey, with this USB external you could save some serious jack and still get connected on the road!
While this isn't the longest review I have ever done, there isn't much more I can say other than if you need a new modem, or just don't have one at all, this is definitely on my list of what to get. For the price, and what you get for it, you can'ta lose. Another thing to consider, if you still live on dial up, and are using Win98, WinME, or Windows 2000 you have the option of multilinking two or more modems if your ISP will allow multiple dial ups on the same account. Given that you can attach up to 127 USB devices to your system, you could get a couple of these and tear up that modem teaming action for some decent download speeds. Once I get my wireless T1, we might get this out to one of our lowly dial up brothers or sisters in a cool giveaway sometime in the future. You all know who you are, so stop hiding!
