There are a host of DVD players on the consumer market to choose from these days. What causes the DVD-N501 to stand out is the inclusion of a Nuon chip.

DVD-N501 Controls and Features

The outside of the the DVD-N501 is a rather stylish metallic silver. Even the window for the display is slightly silvered so that if you look at it from the right angle everything looks opaque.

On the left side of the front bezel are located the power buttons and ports for the Nuon controllers. There are two Nuon ports hidden behind a small gray rubber plug that quickly pops out of the socket. Only one controller ships with the DVD-N501, though companies like Logitech have reportedly just come out with some Nuon controllers.

The Nuon jacks are quite small and it does seem that they require a bit more care to insert than your regular Nintendo controller jack would. About the only gripe we have with the DVD-N501 surrounds the small Grey plug used to conceal the Nuon jacks. As it is not attached to the frame in anyway we can see it being easily lost.

The opposite side of the front bezel has the standard buttons for operation the basic functionality of the DVD-player. As with most consumer electronics, the unit is designed to be operated from the remote control primarily. Interestingly, the Nuon chip throws in some rather cool (or hypnotically irritating) graphics up on the screen whenever an audio CD is dropped into the player much in the same way that WinAMP does on the computer screen. There are several hundred variations to choose from.
