BIOS Feature and MicroStepping

The BIOS is typical of IWill, saying that, I mean, it's extremely well laid out, everything is where you'd expect it to be. There's an abundance of memory tweaks to keep any overclocker happy, on that note, I just couldn't get the Ultra2 setting to work with any memory I had at any FSB! Even with some DDR333 at 133 MHz FSB, it wouldn't work! I wonder what type of memory is needed to run with that setting?

As for overclocking, even though I was using TwinMOS DDR333, I found the highest stable bus speed I was able to attain was 166 MHz. Oh, and yes the XP1800+ that's being used in the testing is unlocked.

While 166 MHz FSB is nothing to be ashamed of, I was actually quite disappointed, I couldn't hit higher since with the same memory, it's possible to go quite a bit higher with other boards such as the EPOX 8KHA+ or the Abit KR7A.

Here is a interesting side note, while at 166 MHz FSB and with my PCI running in spec, the performance of the board was none to great, in fact many times, it was slower then if I had the board at 133 MHz FSB! Just out of a whim, I decided to raise my PCI divider to 1/4 so it would run out of spec, leaving the PCI to run at about 44 MHz which is very high. To my surprise, the performance of the board was up to what it should have been. Here's another example, with the 1/5th PCI divider enabled, the 3DMark2001 score I got was around 7500+ points (which is lower then at 133 MHz!) but when using the 1/4 PCI divider, the score jumped to over 8500+ points!

It's so odd that it boggles the mind...
