DFI NB70-SC Motherboard Review
DFI NB70-SC Motherboard Review - PCSTATS
With the rather plain brown PCB, the NB70-SC looks quite drab in the face of the red and black coloured boards we have been seeing so much of these days.

Overall System Benchmarks

BAPCO Sysmark 2001 Source:MadOnion / BAPco

SYSmark2001 uses real world applications concurrently as an accurate way to test the system by following patterns that reflect the way real users work. SYSmark2001's workloads accurately represent today's updated business usage model. The benchmark runs at a realistic execution speed, with think times between application interactions, in order to emulate a desktop user's interaction with the operating system and applications. Higher numbers denote better performance.

DFI NB70-SC Sysmarks Ranking
1. Internet Content Creation 172
2 Internet Content Creation - Overclocked 182
1 Office Productivity 122
2. Office Productivity - Overclocked 119

For a Pentium4 based computer, these scores are respectable. Unfortunately though the applications used in SysMark2001 don't take advantage of SSE2, and that's where the P4 would flex it's real muscles. It's odd that the overclocked system scores lower in Office Productivity - perhaps there's a problem with timing issues since 108 MHz FSB is a odd number.

Winbench 99 V1.2 Source: e-Testinglabs.com

WinBench 99 is a subsystem-level benchmark that measures the performance of a PC's graphics, disk, and video subsystems in a Windows environment. WinBench 99's tests can run on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows Me systems.

AOpen AK77 Plus Score Ranking
1. Business Disk 4960
1a. Business Disk - Overclocked 5680
2. High-End Disk 14600
2a. High-End Disk - Overclocked 15400
3. Business Graphics 471
3a. Business Graphics - Overclocked 498
4. High-End Graphics 763
4a. High-End Graphics - Overclocked 794

Even though Intel loyalists would say Winbench99 is too old to take advantage of the enhancements made to the Pentium 4, I think this benchmark has more merit then some of the newer ones. Most office environments don't use the latest software, it's just not economical to upgrade your office suite every time Microsoft releases a new one. There is a good increase in performance with the small overclock we were able to achieve.

Winstone 2001 Source: ZDnet

Business Winstone is a system-level, application-based benchmark that measures a PC's overall performance when running today's Windows-based 32-bit applications on Windows 98 SE, Windows NT 4.0 (SP6 or later), Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Windows XP which runs real applications through a series of scripted activities and uses the time a PC takes to complete those activities to produce its performance scores.

Content Creation Winstone 2001 keeps multiple applications open at once and switches among those applications. Content Creation Winstone 2001's activities focus on what we call "hot spots," periods of activity that make your PC really work--the times where you're likely to see an hourglass or a progress bar.

1.

Content Creation

55.4
1a. Content Creation - Overclocked 57.7
2. Business Winstone 38.2
2a. Business Winstone - Overclocked 39.6

Content Creation and Business Winstone verify the same things SysMark2001 and Winbench99 say. Office benchmarking is not the P4's forte. The numbers taken from these benchmarks are in fact lower then a P3 1 GHz setup!
