a new benchmark from our pals at MadOnion which a whole system benchmark. It can
be used on desktop PC's, Laptops and even Workstations and tests everyday
computing from home to office usage. PCMark specifically stresses the CPU,
memory subsystem, graphics subsystem, hard drives, WindowsXP GUI (if WinXP is
used), video performance and even laptop batteries. This benchmark was released
March 12, 2002 and can be downloaded from Madonion if you would like to give it
a test run on your computer for comparisons sake...
With PCMark2002 it's not very surprising to see the systems
with the AthlonXP 1700+ processor lead the pack. The AXP1700+ does more work per
clock cycle then the P4 at 1.6 GHz. The P3 trails by a lot in PCMark2002 CPU
benchmark performing less than 50% of the slowest P4 mainboard. Also, it seems
that the P4 motherboards using the SiS 650 performed the slowest.
