Abstract: Faced with the purchase of dozens of new computers, government agencies, schools and businesses need to find ways to keep costs down while still getting the equipment they require.|
MSI MS-6390 - AMD
The MSI 6390 is based on VIA's KM266 chipset which is
basically the KT266A with an integrated ProSavage videocard. Being one of the
more powerful motherboards in the round up it was also one of the more
upgradeable ones as well. Using a Micro ATX sized PCB the 6090 has all the
goodies you could ever want included for a mainstream office box as well.

The first thing that
catches your eye when you lay your eyes on this motherboard is the massive heatsink on the MOSFETS. Good job MSI,
they must generate a lot of heat and remember this is a low cost board. MSI
didn't do it for the looks.
other hand, we were a bit surprised with the small passive green heatsink on the
northbridge. As mentioned earlier, the KM266 is based on the KT266A which on
most other motherboards had active cooling plus a ProSavage videocard.
news is during testing we didn't have any stability problems and the board
worked quite well. It's nice to see that MSI has taken the time to add an AGP
slot to this motherboard allowing consumers to upgrade to a videocard if
three extra PCI slots you should have all the expansion needs covered.
MS-6390 was also quite inexpensive, coming in at just $125 CDN.
