OCZ PC2700 EL Dual Channel Memory 2x 256MB Kit

OCZ PC2700 EL Dual Channel Memory 2x 256MB Kit - PCSTATS
Abstract: It was only a matter of time before manufacturers and their marketing departments jumped all over the "dual channel DDR" craze created by nVIDIA's nForce2.

Unreal Tournament 2003 is the sequel to 1999's multiple 'Game of the Year' award winner. It uses the very latest Unreal Engine technology - where graphics, sound and gameplay are taken beyond the bleeding edge. Unreal Tournament 2003 employs the use of Vertex as well as Pixel Shaders and it's recommended that you use a DirectX 8 videocard to get the most out of the game.

In UT2003 we find a slight performance increase with the faster FSB settings.

Conclusions

While the OCZ PC2700 EL dual channel memory kit was only mediocre in terms of overclocking, with a retail price of $255 CDN ($165 US) it's about $40 CDN cheaper then two 256MB Corsair's XMS2700 modules, and about $100 cheaper then two 256MB Corsair's XMS3500 CAS2 DIMM's!

The OCZ PC2700 El Dual Channel memory kit performed quite well and we did not have any compatibility problems with the Epox 8RDA+ (nForce2 SPP) mainboard we used for testing. I guess we can attribute this good fortune to the fact that this memory comes from a "dual channel kit".

While the black aluminum heat spreaders are more for show, they certainly do make the memory modules look very "cool". When we took off the heatsinks we found that the DRAM had OCZ markings on it and the DRAM had a 4ns rating. Even with such high speed DRAM we were only able to hit a maximum of 190 MHz FSB with the most aggressive timings, and 200 MHz if we used conservative ones.

At 190 MHz FSB most applications saw between a 3-5% speed increase which is very good considering we kept the CPU speed within 15 MHz of stock speeds! In the end, if you're looking for some inexpensive memory but don't want the usual generic stuff your local computer store carries, check out the OCZ PC2700 EL Dual Channel memory kit. It's guaranteed to run nicely together and offers quite a bit of value!
