Unreal Tournament 2003

Source: Epic

Unreal Tournament 2003 is the sequel to 1999's multiple 'Game of the Year' award winner. It uses the very latest Unreal Engine technology - where graphics, sound and gameplay are taken beyond the bleeding edge. Unreal Tournament 2003 employs the use of Vertex as well as Pixel Shaders and it's recommended that you use a DirectX 8 videocard to get the most out of the game.

As we saw with in Quake III, the AMD system gets a modest increase due to the higher FSB. On the Intel side of the coin, the performance boost is much larger and more noticeable.

Definitely very fast!

If GeIL's plan in the last eight months was to build a reputation among enthusiasts, they've reached that goal easily. In any enthusiast forum you visit right now, you're bound to read a few good things about GeIL memory.

With a retail price of $500 CDN ($345 US) the two 512MB GeIL PC4000 Platinum Series memory modules are certainly expensive, but if you want the best you have to be prepared to pay for it. Cheap, and performance, do not go well together! ;-)

These days it seems like all the high speed memory modules come with another large price and that's a high latency. While this is not a big problem in the Intel world, this can cause some major headaches on the AMD side of things since latency is very important to overall performance.

If you're rig is Intel and you plan to push your system to its absolute limits, the GeIL PC4000 memory is definitely for you. Using 3.5ns GeIL DRAM (GL3LC32G88TG-35) we were able to hit a nice round 260 MHz while using 2.5-4-4-7 which is pretty aggressive for that speed. With our AMD system though, the memory didn't do quite as well as it maxed out at a rather paltry 215 MHz FSB.

If you're an AMD user and would like to push your system a bit more, might I suggest that you pick up something that's a bit slower - but one that has tighter timings like GeIL's own PC3500 Ultra, Kingston HyperX PC3500 or some Corsair XMS3500 CAS2. Those DIMM's will probably serve you better as they'll overclock to about the same speeds but run tighter timings. Intel enthusiasts will certainly be happy if they mortgage their house and pick up some of this blisteringly fast GEIL memory! There's nothing better!
