Benchmarks: Aquamark3, Gun Metal2

AquaMark3 Source: Massive Development

Continuing with the DirectX9 benchmarks, Aquamark3 can stress any video card out there right now with its complex effects. AquaMark3 is a powerful tool to determine reliable information about the gaming performance of a computer system. Because the benchmark extensively utilizes DirectX9, DirectX8 and DirectX7 functionality, it represents the requirements of typical gaming applications in 2004.

The XGI Volari V8's results in this test were excellent, as it pulled ahead of some its more powerful competitors. We did experience a few image and texture quality issues with parts of the benchmark though. Again, overclocking brought substantial benefits in performance.

Gun Metal 2 Source: Yeti Studio

Gun Metal 2 is one of the first games that will be taking advantage of DirectX 9 technology. According to Gun Metal 2, 2x AA is enabled by default on all videocards and the listed framerates are average.

Like Codecreatures, the Volari reference card had great deal of difficulty with this high-end benchmark. This is not particularly surprising as we have seen many cards choke on it, but the V8's score seems a little low even in scale. Of more concern was the 'occlusion query unsupported' error that popped up after we had completed the benchmark with the card. Perhaps there are some hardware or driver compatibility issues with the benchmark? In any event, image quality was just fine.
