Benchmarks: Super PI, PCMark 02, PCMark 04

Super Pi Source: SuperPI

SuperPI calculates the number PI to 1 Million digits in this raw number crunching benchmark. The program allows the user to change the number of digits of PI that can be calculated from 16 thousand to 32 million. Our benchmark is set to 1 Million digits and 19 iterations.

Sony VAIO VGN-T140P 66
Gigabyte G-MAX N203 49

Again we see that the 1.6Ghz Pentium M in the G-Max N203 does not give up much in performance to 1.7GHz model. The ultra-low voltage Pentium M 1.1 of the VAIO is outclassed here.

PCMark 2002 Source: FutureMark

PCMark 2002 can be used on desktop PCs, Laptops and even Workstations and tests home and office computing usage. PCMark specifically stresses the CPU, memory subsystem, graphics subsystem, hard drives, WindowsXP GUI (if WinXP is used) and video performance.

HDD: Points Ranking
Gigabyte G-MAX N512 862
Sony VAIO VGN-T140P 377
Gigabyte G-MAX N203 428

The Gigabyte G-Max N203 posts good results here, though it loses out to the G-Max N512 in all three tests. We're not sure why the N512 notebook gained such a huge lead in the hard drive benchmark.

PCMark04 Source: FutureMark

The latest version of the popular PCMark series, PCMark04 is an application-based benchmark and a premium tool for measuring overall PC performance. It uses portions of real applications instead of including whole applications or using specifically created code. This allows PCMark04 to maintain a smaller installation size while still giving accurate results.

The G-Max N203 scores well in all of the sections of PCMark04 with the understandable exception of graphics performance. CPU and memory scores are excellent. Intel still has a long way to go with its integrated graphics.
