X3: Reunion framerates are pretty slow at 1024x768, so
even that resolution is too much for the MSI NX7300GS-TD256E and its 90nm GPU.
The Radeon X700 Pro doesn't fair much better either.
Entry Level Videocard: Good
for Some Game Titles But Not All
The main advantage the
GeForce 7300GS has on the Geforce 6200TC GPU is that it is built on TSMC's 90nm
manufacturing process. nVIDIA clocks the GPU speed to 550 MHz, and the reference
design bumps up the amount of onboard memory also. This lessens the need to
constantly swap with the system memory.
The MSI NX7300GS-TD256E is a very well rounded videocard
and with a retail price of $90 CDN ($78 USD/$45 GBP). The software
package includes a copy of Juiced, which is a fairly recent racing simulator.
The NX7300GS-TD256E also supports dual monitors as well as TV output and
component output. DX9.0c and SM3 are also supported by this GPU.
The performance of the MSI
NX7300GS-TD256E is pretty good considering its intended audience - value
oriented infrequent gamers. The NX7300GS was twice as fast the unimpressive GeForce 6200TC GPU on the whole, but the Radeon X700 Pro
is still a little further out in front (with the exception of SM3 tests
naturally).
The extra memory on the MSI NX7300GS videocard did
certainly help things, but if you're in the market for a PCI Express videocard
it's well worth your while to understand the limitations of this GPU. It is
affordable, it shows a marked improvement over the Geforce 6200TC, but it is
still a mainstream PCI Express videocard.
