Max OC Chart and Conclusions

It's great to see how individual memory stacks up against the competition under stock configurations, but we're also going to show how it compares when overclocked. With performance in mind, we're going to compare the maximum overclocked results of the various DDR-2 memory modules PCSTATS has tested in the past which are listed below. Remember, just because memory is clocked fast doesn't mean it's the best thing for a computer. Timings are also important, and getting the right ratio of both is the real key to performance based overclocking!

The 2GB kit of OCZ PC2-7200 Platinum SLI Ready memory is the fastest DDR2 memory we've tested to date with low CAS latency settings dialed in! Looks like PCSTATS may be in need of a faster socket AM2 motherboard in the near future, the Foxconn C51XEM2AA is starting to show its limitations.

Memory That's Wicked Fazt!?

Hobbies like overclocking are expensive, but the benefits can certainly breed thoroughbred computer systems with less than top of the line processors. While high quality memory by itself might only increase performance slightly, if at all, good memory often acts as the key to unlocking huge performance gains from the system as a whole when it's overclocked.

OCZ has been in the overclocking biz for long enough, and its new 2GB PC2-7200 Platinum XTC SLI Ready kit is definitely not for the first time overclocker. This PC2-7200 DDR2-900 class memory is really only going to bring about good things in the hands of an experienced enthusiast. And with a retail price of $397 CDN ($354 US, £186GBP) for the two 1024MB sticks, you'll want to have an appropriately quick socket AM2 or Core 2 Duo system to install them into.

If you 've already picked up a set of the PC2-7200 Platinum XTC SLI Ready modules and are having a hard time booting the system up, you might be experiencing a similar issue as we faced.

The fix is simple, get a stick of DDR2 memory that works properly in your system, boot into the BIOS and increase the voltage to 2.1V. Once that's done power down your system and reinsert the other PC2-7200 stick and you should be set.

This info really should be included with the memory, but at least OCZs tech support staff know their products thoroughly enough to quickly resolve the problem.

In terms of performance, the 2GB OCZ PC2-7200 Platinum XTC SLI Ready memory modules acted like all other DDR2-800 DIMMs at stock Athlon64 speeds. We say this just in case you have any misconceptions about what enthusiast grade memory does when not overclocked. As you've seen from the benchmarks, the OCZ PC2-7200 Platinum XTC SLI Ready memory's overclocking ability currently puts it among the fastest DDR2 PCSTATS has tested with low CAS latency settings. The memory is only rated to run at DDR2-900 speeds, yet it almost achieved 1.1 GHz with 4-4-3-15 timings! With looser 5-5-5-15 timings the PC2-7200 Platinum XTC SLI memory achieved a maximum speed of 1104 MHz.

There's no getting around the fact that the 2GB OCZ PC2-7200 Platinum XTC SLI Ready memory kit will set you back quite a bundle. The need for increased voltage by default to get it up and running is a little disconcerting, but the end result is certainly what every overclocker wants.... speed! In this regard OCZ delivers exactly what it promises in the PC2-7200 Platinum XTC, and as such the end result will certainly be well worth it to many.
