Pure 32-Bit Benchmarks: Office Productivity, SiSoft Sandra, Maya Render

Office Productivity Source: Zdnet

Business Winstone 2004 runs real applications through a series of scripted activities and uses the time a PC takes to complete these activities to produce its performance scores.

Content Creation Winstone 2004 is a system-level, application-based benchmark that measures a PC's overall performance when running top, Windows-based, 32-bit, content creation applications in Windows XP.

PCSTATS Benchmark ReportOffice Productivity:

AMD Athlon64 FX-60 33.3
AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ 33

AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ 41.4
AMD Athlon64 FX-62 46.2
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 43.3

These results are certainly interesting to see, the Intel Core 2 Duo is quite a bit quicker than the Pentium D series but slower than AMD's Athlon64. The applications used in the Office Productivity tests are older which means they will not be optimized for the Core 2 Duo processor. To take advantage of modern dual core processors, you'll want to use the latest software available.

SiSoft Sandra 2005 Source: Sandra

Sandra is designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system and individual components. The numbers taken though are again, purely theoretical and may not represent real world performance.

The SiSoft Sandra benchmark results are certainly interesting. The Intel Core 2 Duo has plenty of Multimedia power, that much should be obvious, however the CPU results like the Whetstone are actually lower than the dual core Athlon64 processors. Memory bandwidth is also lower. Let's see how that translates in the next benchmark.

Maya 8 Render Test Source: Maya-Test Center

Because of different displacement algorithms and continuous improvements of the renderer, Maya 6 and its corresponding batch renderer is absolutely required. The Test Scene is fairly processor-intensive and can take anywhere from 2 to 20 minutes to render depending on your system specifications. Rendering produces 1 frame (512x512pixels). Lower times are better.

Our custom Maya 8 render test easily shows which processor is fastest - the Core 2 Duo E6600. Look at it this way, in the single core tests the E6600 comes in at 25 seconds, and the Athlon64-62 comes in at 40 seconds. In the dual core tests the FX-62 clocks in at a time of 19 seconds while the E6600 does it in just 12.
