ABIT AB9 Pro Intel P965 Express Motherboard Review
ABIT AB9 Pro Intel P965 Express Motherboard Review - PCSTATS
Since we're dealing with the Intel ICH8R southbridge, SATA RAID 0/1/5/10/JBOD is standard. Of course there's more to the AB9 Pro than just Serial ATA, this Socket 775 Intel P965 Express based motherboard has a lot going for it.

Motherboard Benchmarks: Quake 4 / Conclusions

ID Software Quake 4 1.3

Source: id Software

Quake 4 is the latest shooter from ID and is based on the Doom 3 engine. Tweaked to for more eye candy, Quake 4 promises to be tougher on videocards and systems than its predecessor was. Quake 4 also does not have a 60 fps limiter like Doom 3, with the Ultra setting, graphic textures can surpass the 500MB mark! Each test is run three times and with the third run being recorded.

In the last benchmark of the day, the ABIT AB9 Pro does well in Quake 4. Not much of a surprise. :)

The many flavours of Intel's P965 Express

Terabyte storage levels are on the threshold of becoming a very common situation. If you have a fast broadband connection and like movies and music, the more hard drives you've got the happier you'll be. Good thing the the ABIT AB9 Pro that PCSTATS tested in this review can support up to nine internal SATA drives.

The AB9 Pro motherboard offers a fairly standard set of features and options not unfamiliar to any one of a number of Intel 965 platforms out there. The basics, 7.1 channel High Definition Audio, IEEE 1394a, dual GigABIT network cards are ticked off. Overclockers and tweakers will also like the addition of a Port 80 diagnostics card.

The ABIT AB9 Pro motherboard itself is interesting. ABIT does an excellent job at cooling the various chipsets on the motherboard. Silent OTES is just that, silent thanks to its ability to cool without fans. The layout of the motherboard is a bit odd, but it works.

In PCSTATS tests, we found the ABIT AB9 Pro motherboard to perform just as well as virtually any other Intel 965 motherboard with an E6600 CPU in the socket. From 2D office style tasks to 3D games, whatever you want the ABIT AB9 Pro can do. The AB9 Pro did not lead in any category, but it was fast enough to battle it out for top spot in most tests.

ABIT was a bit tame on the memory tweaks, a motherboard of the AB9 Pro's class should definitely have more options. At least ABIT includes a good set of overclocking options. We were particularly pleased to find high CPU and memory voltages available. The AB9 Pro was a decent overclocker, hitting 420 MHz in the PCSTATS labs.

With a retail price of $179 CDN ($152 US, £78 GBP) the ABIT AB9 Pro motherboard sits near the middle of the pack. It has a comprehensive list of integrated features, runs silently, and tips its hat to overclockers without alienating workstation users just looking for a solid P965 Express platform. All around, the ABIT AB9 Pro is a good solid motherboard.
