A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition DDR2-800 2GB Memory Kit Review

A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition DDR2-800 2GB Memory Kit Review - PCSTATS
Abstract: A-DATA is not a memory brand we're really familiar with here in North America, its main audience has been Asia. The company is now making an effort to catch our attention, so let's test first, then form our opinions.

Memory Benchmarks: 3DMark06, Quake 4, FEAR

Futuremark 3DMark06 1.1.0 Source: FutureMark

3DMark05 is best suited for the latest generation of DirectX9.0 graphics cards. It is the first benchmark to require a DirectX9.0 compliant hardware with support for Pixel Shaders 2.0 or higher! By combining high quality 3D tests, CPU tests, feature tests, image quality tools, and much more, 3DMark05 is a premium benchmark for evaluating the latest generation of gaming hardware.

PCSTATS Benchmark ReportFuturemark 3DMark06 1.1.0:
Overall Points Ranking
Corsair DOMINATOR Twin2X2048-8888C4DF (333/1066) 9247
Patriot PDC24G6400LLK (333/800) 9243
A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition (333/800) 9256
A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition (333/1250) 9272
CPU Points Ranking
Corsair DOMINATOR Twin2X2048-8888C4DF (333/1066) 2368
Patriot PDC24G6400LLK (333/800) 2356
A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition (333/800) 2338
A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition (333/1250) 2385

3DMark06 results are flatsville. Flat, flat, flat. Looks like having a huge pool of bandwidth is not as big a deal in this test.

ID Software Quake 4 1.3

Source: id Software

Quake 4 is the latest shooter from ID and is based on the Doom 3 engine. Tweaked to for more eye candy, Quake 4 promises to be tougher on videocards and systems than its predecessor was. Quake 4 also does not have a 60 fps limiter like Doom 3, with the Ultra setting, graphic textures can surpass the 500MB mark! Each test is run three times and with the third run being recorded.

PCSTATS Benchmark ReportID Software Quake 4
LQ 640x480 FPS Ranking
Corsair DOMINATOR Twin2X2048-8888C4DF (333/1066) 214.6
Patriot PDC24G6400LLK (333/800) 211.4
A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition (333/800) 210.5
A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition (333/1250) 218.6

Quake 4 framerates are pretty good at stock speeds. The A-DATA memory only trails the Corsair DOMINATOR by a few frames. Overclocking just the memory boosts framerates, but perhaps not enough for you to notice.

Sierra FEAR 1.08

Source: Sierra

FEAR is Sierra's latest first person shooter which relies heavily on DirectX 9 features. With its "Soft Shadows" feature enabled, even the fastest videocards run at a crawl, FEAR is definitely the new benchmark for future FPS games to follow.

PCSTATS Benchmark ReportSierra FEAR
Minimum Settings 640x480: FPS Ranking
Corsair DOMINATOR Twin2X2048-8888C4DF (333/1066) 563
Patriot PDC24G6400LLK (333/800) 556
A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition (333/800) 554
A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition (333/1250) 586

Framerates are close all around, and the different memory speeds only increase the results marginally.

It's great to see how individual memory stacks up against the competition under stock configurations, but we're also going to show how it compares when overclocked next.
