Overclocking is alive and well! PCSTATS has all the details
you need to see at a glance to know which board is best. The chart we've
compiled below lists the highest overclocked Front Side Bus speeds we were able
to achieve while maintaining 100% stability.
There the Foxconn DigitaLife X38A motherboard is, at the
top of our overclocking charts! It's got a heck of a lot of overclocking
potential in it!.
Take your pick - DDR2 or
Just when we're starting to
get comfortable with the DDR2 memory standard, Intel shifts to DDR3. Blame quad
core processors and the bandwidth crunch they'd be running into with the current
technology for this one.
Most socket 775 motherboards on the market make you
choose between the DDR2 and newer DDR3 memory standard. It's one or the other,
but given the price difference many users have said 'hell no!' to DDR3 and stuck
with DDR2 instead.
In essence, that is why the Foxconn Digitalife X38A
motherboard exists. This motherboard brings the performance advantage of the
Intel X38 chipset, and splits the memory options between DDR2 and DDR3 to
accommodate users who are rightfully unhappy with forking over $500 for new
What we have here is a high end Intel X38 Express
motherboard that supports both memory formats. It allows you to take advantage
of low priced DDR2 memory with this popular chipset, and upgrade to DDR3 as
prices fall in the coming months. To top things off, the Foxconn DigitaLife X38A
motherboard is a versatile Intel X38 Express platform; it has a ton of USB 2.0
slots, accomodates dual videocard Crossfire setups, IEEE 1394a and eSATA. The
Foxconn X38A retails for about $233 CDN ($230 USD, £112 GBP), so it's quite affordable
compared to other Intel X38 Express motherboards.
Since the Foxconn DigitaLife X38A supports both
DDR2 and DDR3 memory, PCSTATS tested the motherboard with both standards. As you
saw in the benchmarks, we got some "interesting" results. If you're using a dual
core processor stick with DDR2 memory. Not only is it cheaper, it also offers
higher performance than DDR3 in virtually every test we threw the X38A's way.
These results will differ if a quad-core processor is in the drivers seat. When
it comes to overclocking the Foxconn DigitaLife X38A motherboard really shines.
PCSTATS was able to overclock this board to an astronomical 555 MHz FSB! It's
the fastest Intel motherboard that PCSTATS has tested to date, and man that's
pretty amazing considering the competition on the market. Foxconn is the real
deal if you're into overclocking!
Intel's X48 Express is right around the corner, but it's
really only a supped up X38 Express. In any case if you want an awesome
motherboard, Foxconn delivers with the DigitaLife X38A!
