Overclocking with ASUS on the nForce 780i

Overclocking Results:
stock max. oc
motherboard speed: 333 mhz

475 mhz

Overclocking the CPU and Memory
Overclocking the Videocard

Asus and overclocking go together like milk and cookies, so PCSTATS definitely had high hopes for the ASUS P5N-T Deluxe motherboard. The board was installed with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 processor and a 2GB kit of Corsair DOMINATOR Twin2X2048-8888C4DF memory. If it isn't Corsair, you ain't getting far!

Before PCSTATS overclocking tests began the DDR2 memory was configured to run in 800 MHz mode and the Core 2 Duo's clock multiplier set to 6x in the Asus Extreme Tweaker BIOS. With the nVidia 780i chipset the actual bus speed is listed in the BIOS, so we began at 1333MHz (4 x 333MHz FSB) and jumped to 1400(350), 1440(360), 1500(375), 1540(385), 1580(395), 1600(400), 1640(410), 1680(420), 1760(440), 1800(450), 1840 (460) and finally 1880MHz (470MHz). To achieve this we had to up the nforce 780i northbridge voltage to 1.40V, memory to 1.99V.

To achieve an overclock of 1900 MHz (475MHz) we had to up northbridge voltage to 1.54V, memory to 2.05V, and that was about as far as we were able to get with the Asus P5N-T Deluxe motherboard.

The final overclocking results a stable overclock at 1900MHz (4 x 475MHz FSB), with a northbridge voltage of 1.54V, and memory at 2.05V. While this still falls a little shy of overclocks we've seen on some Intel X38 Express chipsets, it's still a respectable boost to CPU performance.

A Quick Look inside the BIOS:

nVidia's enthusiast BIOS options are always easy to work with, and allow for fine control over pretty much every aspect of the system.

Here you can unlink the Memory Clock from the FSB, which is great if you're using slower memory that will fall outside of a specified FSB-to-memory clockspeed ratio.

Here are the max voltages the board supports - make sure NOT to turn up your memory voltage up to 3.110V yourself or you will kill the processor

Prelude to Benchmarks

The details of how the ASUS P5N-T Deluxe motherboard test system was configured for benchmarking, including the specific hardware, software drivers, operating system and benchmark versions are indicated below. In the second column are the general specs for the reference platforms this nVidia nForce 780i based system is to be compared against. Please take a moment to look over PCSTATS test system configurations before moving on to the individual benchmark results.
