Abstract: In most other respects the quad core 3.4GHz Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 125W revision remains the same. The architecture is "Deneb", the socket is AM3 and the CPU still features 6MB of shared L3 and 512KB of L2 cache for each of the four cores.

Mol Dyn: Molecular Dynamics is a method for simulating the thermodynamic behaviour of materials using their forces, velocities, and positions. Most important of the afore mentioned is the force. Primordia: This code calculates the Quantum Mechanical Hartree-Fock Orbital for each electron in any element of the periodic table Lower times indicate better results.

Lower calculation times are better.

ScienceMark illustrates just how much optimization can affect a processor's performance. The Primordia benchmark places the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition (125W) in the lead by a significant margin, and it doesn't seem to favour the Core i7 920 at all. The Mol Dun benchmark is a win for the Core i7, with the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition (125W) dropping to third place overall, just ahead of the Core 2 Duo E 8400.

WinRAR Internal Benchmark Source: RARLabs

This command generates random data, which contain specially introduced redundancy increasing load to processor and memory. Then data are passed through RAR compression and decompression algorithms and output of decompression algorithm is compared with source data. If any difference found, WinRAR reports "Errors found - Yes" in the command window. Also WinRAR displays a size of processed data and compression speed, current and resulting, in kilobytes per second. You may use the resulting speed value to compare RAR performance in different conditions.

Higher results are better.

WinRAR again shows that the current state of the hard drive is a huge variable in this test, explaining the difference between the original and 125W versions of the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition.

The score of the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition (125W) goes up dramatically in WinRAR under Windows 7, these differences are due mainly to fluctuations in hard drive access performance rather than any disadvantage of the operating system.
