AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4 GHz Socket AM3 125W Processor Review
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4 GHz Socket AM3 125W Processor Review - PCSTATS
In most other respects the quad core 3.4GHz Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 125W revision remains the same. The architecture is "Deneb", the socket is AM3 and the CPU still features 6MB of shared L3 and 512KB of L2 cache for each of the four cores.

CPU Rendering Benchmarks: Cinebench R10, Bibble 5

Cinebench R10 Source: CINEBENCH

CINEBENCH is a real-world test suite that assesses your computer's performance capabilities. CINEBENCH runs several tests on your computer to measure the performance of the main processor under real world circumstances. The benchmark application makes use of up to 16 CPUs or CPU cores to render a photo-reaslistic image. The scene makes use of various CPU-intensive features such as reflection, ambient occlusion, area lights and procedural shaders. In the first run, the benchmark only uses one CPU (or CPU core), to ascertain a reference value. On computers that have multiple CPUs or CPU cores and on those who simulate multiple CPUs (via HyperThreading or similar technologies), MAXON CINEBENCH will run a second test using all available CPU power.

Higher results are best. Cinebench is multi-threaded.

When all threads are fired up both the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition and its rival, the Core i5 750 manage to tie in Cinebench. Nothing can tough the Core i7 920 though, which can run eight threads at once while the other processors can only do four.

Windows 7 returns largely the same results as Windows Vista does, with a slight fluctuation in performance for each processor tested.

Bibble 5.0 Source: Bibble Labs

Bibble 5 is a multi-threaded photographic workflow application that can be used to demonstrate the ability to scale work load across 4, 8, 16 or more processor cores. The basic process we will use for benchmarking is to convert a batch of 50 RAW image files from a digital SLR camera from their original RAW format to JPEG's at full resolution, using the applications default image settings.

Lower results are best.

Bibble5 is a great photo-ediging program for illustrating the everyday benefits of multi-core processors. With the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition (125W) in the drivers seat, processing time to convert 50 RAW files to JPEG format is neatly halved when compared to dual core processors with similar speeds (like the 3.0GHz Intel E8500).
