AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4 GHz Socket AM3 125W Processor Review
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4 GHz Socket AM3 125W Processor Review - PCSTATS
In most other respects the quad core 3.4GHz Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 125W revision remains the same. The architecture is "Deneb", the socket is AM3 and the CPU still features 6MB of shared L3 and 512KB of L2 cache for each of the four cores.

CPU Calculation Benchmarks: wPrime2.0

wPrime 2.0 Source: WPrime

wPrime uses a recursive call of Newton's method for estimating functions, with f(x)=x2-k, where k is the number we're sqrting, until Sgn(f(x)/f'(x)) does not equal that of the previous iteration, starting with an estimation of k/2. It then uses an iterative calling of the estimation method a set amount of times to increase the accuracy of the results. It then confirms that n(k)2=k to ensure the calculation was correct. It repeats this for all numbers from 1 to the requested maximum.

Lower calculation times are better. wPrime is multi-threaded.

wPrime 2.0 is a great multi-threaded benchmark for testing the number crunching capabilities of a processor. It fills in where SuperPi leaves off, and allows us to stress one core, or any number of cores up to the total amount in the processor. The CPUs benchmarked here range from two to four cores, so the most important result set to pay attention to is the final block (all threads).

Since the Core i5 750 has no hyperthreading capabilites, it remains slightly slower than the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition (125W) when both processors have all four cores loaded. The Core i7 920's can use hyperthreading to run eight threads on its four cores simultaneously, so its stores can't be matched in this test.

Windows 7 shows nearly the same scaling performance as Windows Vista. The two versions of the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition have identical performance here, as always.
