Review Notes: Quality of the Hitachi display

Display Test System Configuration:
Video Card: ATI Radeon 64 DDR
Operating System: Windows 98 SE
Display Settings: Color Temp: 9300 Kelvin
Resolution: 1600x1200 pixels
Frequency: 85Hz
Colour: 32 Bit

Geometry: Excellent, no visible distortion at outside corners.

Brightness / Contrast: Excellent contrast and brightness - 1% to 9% black test patterns are well represented with distinct separation in intensity. Same goes for 20% to 100% white. Only visible problem occurs with bright white test pattern on mostly black background. A slight halo exists around the white test pattern from the phosphor.

High Voltage: During the test, some movement was seen in the vertical trace lines on par with most displays of this size. Horizontal trace lines remained very stable during the three-bar test.

Colours: Green and white were displayed excellently, blue was very good, and red (as always seems to be the case with hitachi CRT's) was ever so slightly washed out.

Convergence: Very good at center, outermost lines exhibited a slight loss of convergence so line artificially appears wider on white test grid. Purple test grids very good with slight loss of convergence on blue at outer edge in center of display. The yellow and light blue test grids were represented excellently. The RGB grid demonstrated a loss of convergence at the outer edges.

Focus: Very good in center and outside edges. It was unusual to see the vertical 1-pixel lines so sharp.

Resolution: Central test pattern excellent, outer edge test patterns very good. Vertical 1 pixel lines are very clear - this is usually an area whith difficulties.

Moire: Very good. Some slight masking effects on the 1-pixel test pattern.

Readability: Excellent.

Jitter: None visible at all.

Display Resolutions: The Hitachi CM821F supports a very broad range of resolutions. The full list of manufacture supported resolutions and frequencies are listed below:

Display Resolutions:
Resolution Freq Hor. Freq Ver. Standard
640x480 31.5kHz 70Hz VGA
800x600 53.7kHz 85Hz VESA
1024x768 68.7kHz 85Hz VESA
1152x870 68.9kHz 75Hz MAC
1280x1024 91.1kHz 85Hz XGA
1600x1200 106.25kHz 85Hz XGA
1600x1280 112.0kHz 90Hz XGA
