Conclusions

With the release of the AthlonXP 2400+ and XP2600+ AMD is back in the game full tilt for the ever present performance crown. However as of this writing, the Athon XP 2400+ is not yet available to consumers. Officially the chips are out, but when exactly they will hit store shelves for consumers to purchase is still unknown.

The delay in the full-fledged release of the AMD Athlon XP 2400+ can be traced to the FAB changing from 0.18 micron manufacturing to 0.13 micron. This is a this is difficult process, and almost every single chip manufacturers who have made the jump have experienced the growing pains which seem to come along with it. Still, it's nice to see that AMD is past that stage and on their way towards pumping out the new Thoroughbred's en masse.

Don't be mistaken for a moment, the stock performance of the AthlonXP 2400+ is simply awesome. Even for the most hardcore user, there is plenty of power in the CPU. If you do feel that you need to overclock, the chip we tested was able to hit about 2.25 GHz but it seems that quite a few of them will do 2.4 GHz on just air cooling.

AMD's new T-Bred B's are excellent processors, and I only hope that AMD is able to get them out to the gamers, and performance users as quickly as possible. If they can get the CPU's out, they'll surely win back many users who may have (temporarily) jumped ship!
