Benchmarks: SysMark2002, Winstone 2002

SysMark2002 is more of an extension of SysMark2001 rather then a whole new benchmark. The applications used during testing have been updated and most importantly for AMD users, the new SysMark2002 uses the Windows Media Encoder 7.1 which supports the AthlonXP's SSE instructions.

BapCo SysMark 2002 Benchmark Results
Internet Content Sysmarks Ranking
1. Pentium 4 2.8 GHz 372
2. AthlonXP 3000+ (KT400) 311
3. AthlonXP 3000+ (nForce2) 325
4. AthlonXP 3000+ oc'ed (nForce2) 361

Office Productivity

1 Pentium 4 2.8 GHz 187
2. AthlonXP 3000+ (KT400) 171
3. AthlonXP 3000+ (nForce2) 198
4. AthlonXP 3000+ oc'ed (nForce2) 211

Because the internet content portion of the benchmarks takes advantage of SSE2, the P4 has a large lead there. In Office Productivity though, we see that things are reversed - albeit slightly.

Content Creation Winstone 2002 is a system-level, application-based benchmark that measures a PC's overall performance when running top, Windows-based, 32-bit, content creation applications on Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Windows XP.

Business Winstone 2002 is a system-level, application-based benchmark that measures a PC's overall performance when running today's top-selling Windows-based 32-bit applications on Windows 98, Windows 2000 (SP6 or later), Windows Me, or Windows XP. Business Winstone doesn't mimic what these packages do; it runs real applications through a series of scripted activities and uses the time a PC takes to complete those activities to produce its performance scores.

Winstone 2002 Benchmark Results
Content Content Score Ranking
1. Pentium 4 2.8 GHz 40.9
2. AthlonXP 3000+ (KT400) 42.3
3. AthlonXP 3000+ (nForce2) 47.1
4. AthlonXP 3000+ oc'ed (nForce2) 50.3

Business Winstone

1 Pentium 4 2.8 GHz 31.4
2. AthlonXP 3000+ (KT400) 32.7
3. AthlonXP 3000+ (nForce2) 33.2
4. AthlonXP 3000+ oc'ed (nForce2) 36.8

Unlike in SysMark2002 where the P4 could keep up, here it's totally out paced by the AthlonXP 3000+!
