AMDs Move To a 400MHz Bus Speed
AMDs Move To a 400MHz Bus Speed - PCSTATS
While AMD just recently increased bus speeds 333MHz, there has been a lot of talk lately about the AthlonXP moving to a 400MHz bus speed as early as the third quarter of 2003.

Benchmarks: SiSoft Sandra 2003 Pro, PCMark2002

Sisoft Sandra 2002 Pro Source: Sandra

Sandra is designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system and individual components. The numbers taken though are again, purely theoretical and may not represent real world performance. Higher numbers represent better performance.

5b. Integer ALU - AthlonXP 3000+ 200/400 3079 MB/s
6a. Float FPU - AthlonXP 3000+ 166/333 2484 MB/s
6b Float FPU - AthlonXP 3000+ 200/400 2897 MB/s

It's no surprise that in the multimedia and CPU benchmarks show approximately the same numbers since both processors are running within 30 MHz of each other. Memory bandwidth goes up quite a bit about 300 MB/s for both the ALU and FPU at 200 MHz FSB.

PCMark 2002 Source: MadOnion

PCMark is a new benchmark from our pals at MadOnion which a whole system benchmark. It can be used on desktop PC's, Laptops and even Workstations and tests everyday computing from home to office usage. PCMark specifically stresses the CPU, memory subsystem, graphics subsystem, hard drives, WindowsXP GUI (if WinXP is used), video performance and even laptop batteries.

2. AthlonXP 3000+ 200/400 6433

PCMark2002's CPU benchmark says similar things as Sandra's tests. The AthlonXP 3000+ running at a 200 MHz FSB (400MHz bus) performs slightly better thanks to its 30 MHz CPU speed advantage. Also like Sandra, it's the memory portion of the benchmark that benefits most from the increased FSB.
