Maximum Overclocking and Conclusions

It's great to see how individual memory stacks up against one another under stock configuration, but we're also going to show how they stack up to each other when overclocked. The results are listed below for some of the recent memory to cross our test bench. The higher the speed, the better.

If you're an AMD user do yourself a favor and get something that can run tight timings. When using an Intel system you can see that the Corsair TwinX4400PT is the fastest memory module we have ever tested! It can do 550 MHz, but they use 3-4-4-8 memory timings which are extremely lax for an AMD platform.

It should be pretty clear that PC4400 DDR is enthusiast memory through and through. If you run a high-end Intel system, Corsair have developed their TwinX1024-4400PT line of memory modules just for you.

The TwinX1024-4400PT memory is capable of running in a dual channel configuration and can hit an amazing 275 MHz with 3-4-4-8 timings and a voltage of 2.75V!

With our Intel test system we had no problems hitting that speed, and those of you with fast Pentium 4 2.4C chips will be happy to hear that the memory works just fine with the 5:4 and 3:2 memory divider!

If you're an AMD user you'll want to pass on the Corsair TwinX1024-4400PT, it's not built for you and you'd be better served getting something that can run with timings along the lines of 2-2-2-5 at 200 MHz. With a retail price of $559 CDN ($419 US) Corsair's TwinX1024-4400PT memory is certainly expensive, but if you value high speed for your overclocked Intel Pentium4 computer, more than well worth it. Happy 10th anniversary Corsair!
