Gigabyte GA-7VT600-RZ Motherboard Review
Gigabyte GA-7VT600-RZ Motherboard Review - PCSTATS
Most of the computer hardware community has been focusing on Pentium 4 and Athlon64 CPUs, but we shouldn't count out the trusty ole AMD K7 just yet

Benchmarks: X2 The Threat, UT2003 and Conclusion

X2: The Threat Source: Egosoft

A completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8 encompasses many visual effects such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that have a real impact in the game (you can hide in them), many new engine, shield, weapon and explosion effects. Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3 bump mapping allows a previously unseen level of detail.

In X2: The Threat the Gigabyte GA-7VT600-RZ actually performs relatively well considering it's a lower end system.

Unreal Tournament 2003

Source: Epic

Unreal Tournament 2003 is the sequel to 1999's multiple 'Game of the Year' award winner. It uses the very latest Unreal Engine technology - where graphics, sound and game play are taken beyond the bleeding edge. Unreal Tournament 2003 employs the use of Vertex as well as Pixel Shaders and it's recommended that you use a DirectX 8 videocard to get the most out of the game.

If you're a gamer the Gigabyte GA-7VT600-RZ will serve you just fine. Yes it does come in last here in UT2003 but I doubt you'd notice it, you can also use the money that you save on the motherboard to buy a better videocard. :)

A decent value-oriented motherboard

We're as guilty as everyone else on the web for focusing on Pentium 4 and Athlon64 based systems the last little while. There's still a huge market for AMD's K7 products, and considering that there's no killer application or game on the market, we should not write off the little AthlonXP just yet.

If you're already an K7 user and want a bit more without having to do a complete system overhaul, the Gigabyte GA-7VT600-RZ is definitely a board you should take a closer look at. Considering it can be found for as little as $80 CDN ($50 US), it's quite a steal!

Those of you with smaller cases will love the small foot print of the motherboard, it should be able to fit in even the most cramped ATX case. As usual the PCB is very well labelled and user friendly but you'll probably have to take a look at the manual when installing peripherals or headers. One note, take care when you're installing your videocard, the memory retention clips can knock off a resister if you're not careful enough!

Performance of the Gigabyte GA-7VT600-RZ was good for its class. It's slightly slower than a nForce2 equipped motherboard, but I doubt most users will notice unless you're a benchmark freak. Whether you're gaming or working in Word, the Gigabyte GA-7VT600-RZ should be able to keep the majority of you out there with a tight budget, satisfied.
