The Asus P5W64 WS Professional motherboard is intended to provide workstation users
with a very stable platform to work on, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be
spared from our overclocking tests. ;-)

        The motherboard will be equipped
with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 and 2GB of Corsair's Twin2X2048-6400C4 memory. To
make sure nothing will hold the P5W64 WS Professional back, the memory will be
set to run at DDR2-533 mode.
Starting at 266 MHz FSB, the clock
speed was increased in 5 MHz steps. As with all Core 2 Duo motherboards PCSTATS has overclocked,
the Asus P5W64 WS Professional had no problems passing the 300 MHz mark. At
340 MHz the motherboard started to show some signs of instability,
so Northbridge voltage was increased to 1.6V to stabilize it.
At 360 MHz FSB the system become unstable, but
this time around it was the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 processor giving us problems.
CPU voltage was increased to 1.45V. The motherboard responded well to overclocking
on the whole, but at 385 MHz the 975X Express chipset voltage had to be increased 1.7V
to prevent random crashing.
In the end, the Asus P5W64 WS Professional motherboard
maxed out at 400 MHz. It's not the highest overclock we've seen, but good for a
motherboard which is really meant to fulfill workstation roles.
Inside the Asus
BIOS:

In the Asus P5W64 WS Professional BIOS you
get all the usual memory timing adjustments as well as some ECC memory options.
The Intel 975X Express chipset is compatible with ECC memory for that extra bit
of data integrity.

The FSB can be tuned between 266-500 MHz in 1
MHz increments. Memory voltage goes as high as 2.4V, CPU voltage 1.7V,
Northbridge voltage 1.8V and Southbridge voltage to 1.2V.
Prelude to the
benchmarks
The details of how the Asus P5W64 WS Professional
motherboard test system was configured for benchmarking, including the specific
hardware, software drivers, operating system and benchmark versions are
indicated below. In the second column are the general specs for the reference
platforms this Intel 975X Express based system is to be compared against. Please
take a moment to look over PCSTATS test system configurations before moving on
to the individual benchmark results.
