It's
great to see how individual memory stacks up against the competition under stock
configurations, but we're also going to show how it compares when overclocked.
With performance in mind, we're going to compare the maximum overclocked results
of the various DDR-2 memory modules PCSTATS has tested in the past which are
listed below. Remember, just because memory is clocked fast doesn't mean it's
the best thing for a computer. Timings are also important, and getting the right
ratio of both is the real key to performance based overclocking!

Software applications are always increasing their
memory requirements. Right now the "sweet spot" is 2GB. The future will
most likely see that expanded to 4GB of memory, though there are a few
programs that demand this much even now.
When building computers with this much memory,
compatibility becomes an issue if all the RAM is not identical. Mixing and
matching memory from different vendors which use different modules is bad news. Try it and you'll encounter problems
with the system not POSTing, or witness odd memory sizes. Bottom line, it
can be very frustrating to get a system to run with 4GB of memory if the modules
are all different. For those who are looking for some mainstream parts that
won't break the bank, Crucial has what you're looking for.
The 4x1GB of Crucial PC2-6400 memory PCSTATS tested in this review is
compri
sed of four identical 1GB DDR2 PC2-6400
memory modules. Since all modules are the same, compatibility is assured. The
Crucial PC2-6400 memory is rated to run at 800 MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings, not
exactly exciting specs but it's what a mainstream user is looking for.
In terms of performance the 4x1GB of Crucial PC2-6400
memory performed as well as high performance low latency memory at DDR2-800
speeds. At the moment there aren't many applications or games that are
commonly available to end users that require 4GB of memory, but things do
progress rather quickly in the computer industry.
If you're trying to future proof your system Crucial has
some pretty good memory with its 4x1GB PC2-6400 memory kit. It's not the high
performance stuff, this is for those who want no fuss memory which performs as
advertised.
