ReadyBoost Benchmarks: Doom 3, FEAR

ID Software Doom 3 1.3 Source: id Software

Doom 3 takes advantage of the latest videocard technology and pushes the processing power of the CPU to its absolute limit. At its highest setting, Ultra quality, texture sizes pass the 500MB mark which means even tomorrow's videocards will have a hard time running everything. The frame rates in the game itself are locked at 60 fps so anything above that point is wasted. Each test is run three times with the third run being recorded.

512MB System Memory 512MB ReadyBoost 145.3
512MB System Memory 1GB ReadyBoost 147.6
512MB System Memory 2GB ReadyBoost 147.6

2GB System Memory 4GB ReadyBoost 178.5
4GB System Memory 178.6
4GB System Memory 4GB ReadyBoost 178.6

ReadyBoost does boost overall framerates very slightly with the 512MB system RAM configuration, which is a surprise. I guess there's a bit of HDD access when running the Doom3 demo. In any case ReadyBoost does not make a significant impact here.

Sierra FEAR 1.08

Source: Sierra

FEAR is Sierra's latest first person shooter which relies heavily on DirectX 9 features. With its "Soft Shadows" feature enabled, even the fastest videocards run at a crawl, FEAR is definitely the new benchmark for future FPS games to follow.

512MB System Memory 512MB ReadyBoost 427
512MB System Memory 1GB ReadyBoost 430
512MB System Memory 2GB ReadyBoost 430
512MB System Memory 4GB ReadyBoost 430

2GB System Memory 2GB ReadyBoost 498
2GB System Memory 4GB ReadyBoost 498
4GB System Memory 502
4GB System Memory 4GB ReadyBoost 502

Again we see that with 512MB of memory installed, ReadyBoost does improve framerates slightly. When the system has 1GB or more of memory installed ReadyBoost has no impact at all.
