This beast of a computer system was on display at the Acer booth in Nangang for Computex 2008. From 30 feet away, the Aspire G7700 made you stop dead in your tracks and drool.

The case itself is a work of art, evocative of "Transformers" with a hinged front panel cover that smoothly lifts up and rests above the multi-panel chassis. The bright orange paint job uses a metallic copper coating to create a vivid depth of colour. Around front there are two BlueRay optical drives are hidden behind bifucated drive bay covers that split open up like the mandibles of an insect to reveal the disk caddy. Directly above and below the drive bays are front panel jacks for sound, USB, and a variety of flash memory formats. Granted there isn't anything particularly revolutionary here in the way of port placement, but the case is just put together just so well it's hard not to be envious.

My personal fav is the four-bay hot swap SATA rack at the foot of the Acer Aspire G7700 system. The serial ATA drive caddies are hidden behind an illuminated front panel, and each pops out with the push of a button; pop in a couple 1TB drives and you could have yourself a 4TB RAID 0 array in a jiffy! Last but not least, a spoiler at the back of the case is the finishing touch!

Acer wasn't permitting a look inside the PC itself, but the spec sheet gives a nice indication of what to expect:

  • nVidia 2/3-way SLI with GeForce 9-series cards
  • Intel Core 2 Extreme quad core CPUs
  • Overclocking friendly components, and rear mounted CMOS reset button.
  • Liquid cooled processor
  • Expansive storage system via four front-mounted hard drive racks with up to 4TB of space. RAID compatible, plus two eSATA jacks at the back.
  • Accomodates up to 8GB of DDR2 memory @ 1333MHz.
  • Dual blue-ray combo drives
  • Comes with Logitech G11 gaming keyboard and G5 mouse, in matching paint job.
  • Matching 22" LCD display also available.
