Quantum Fireball Plus LM 20.5 GB HDD
Quantum Fireball Plus LM 20.5 GB HDD - PCSTATS
Since my first Fireball had served me so well, and I wanted a lot of space, the next drive I bought was a 6.4-gigabyte Fireball ST.

Fireball Plus LM's basic stats

The Fireball Plus LM's basic stats are as follows: Ultra DMA/66 ATA interface, 7,200 RPM rotational speed, 10.2 gigabytes per platter (7.7 gigabits per square inch), 8.5 ms average seek time, 2 MB cache buffer. Of course, it's a low profile 3.5" drive, with an impressive nonrecoverable data errors per bits read ratio of less than one per 10E15. The drive comes with a three year warranty, and also features Quantum's Shock Protection System, which should help keep the drive from being DOA if mishandled during shipping.

> I tested the drive under both Windows Millenium Edition and Windows 2000 Professional SP1, using FAT32 under both operating systems and NTFS5 under 2000. The test system is as follows:

Intel Pentium !!! 450 ("Katmai")
Abit BX6 R2.02 motherboard w/Intel 440BX chipset
128MB PC100 CAS2 SDRAM
Diamond Viper V770 Ultra AGP video card (TNT2 Ultra using Detonator 3 drivers)
Diamond Monster Sound MX300 PCI sound card (Aureal Vortex 2 chip)
3Com 3C905B-TX PCI Ethernet adapter
Primary drive: 22-gig IBM Deskstar 22GXP, master on primary UDMA/33 controller

CD-ROM: NEC 4x, master on secondary UDMA/33 controller
Test drive: 20.5-gig Quantum Fireball Plus LM, slave on secondary UDMA/33 controller

For any component where a specific driver isn't listed above, the default WinMe or 2000 Pro driver was used. I ran each test three times and averaged the results. Results that were identical across all three test runs are denoted with an asterisk (*) in front.
