Plagued by numerous problems in the recent past, Intel now sees itself in a very difficult position. Quite a contrast from the days before the existance of the Athlon. Since the Athlon's conception, AMD has been moving forward at full speed and minimal hindrance many thanks to the vast pool of chipset and motherboard support.

Quake 3
For this benchmark,
we used the High Quality setting under Quake3 with the default resolution
of 800x600 and other options left at
default.
Memory
Bandwidth
The following scores were taken from benchmarks performed with
SiSoft Sandra 2000's Memory Benchmark
option.
Nothing new over here. Soltek's SL 75KV seems to fit right in
between the Biostar and the Asus motherboard tested here. Naturally, when
comparing motherboards equipped with like chipsets, results attained would not
be drastically different from one another unless of course, the motherboard
boasts of serious design problems.
Audio
Quality
For those
motherboards equipped with an AC97 Audio CODEC, I normally refrain from
commenting about its audio quality as it is taken for granted that AC97 are for
those not too serious about sound quality. In fact, with Soltek's SL
67KV, I came across some very harsh and noisy audio output. To my surprise,
the audio output of the SL 75KV was quite pleasant.
At any volume
level, the sound was crisp and most importantly it was very clear. So
much so that I had even removed my PCI sound card as I was quite satisfied with
what the CODEC could do.
However, the problem of "soft
audio" is the fact that a good number of CPU cycles are consumed. Hardcore
gamers will shun AC97 anyway as they cannot afford the drop in frame
rates.
